Good experience overall, minor issues

I rented a 'Kastenwagen' for a week through PaulCamper for a trip through Austria. The booking process online was quite straightforward and the options were clear. The owner of the camper was very friendly during the handover and explained everything well. The vehicle itself was clean and well-maintained, exactly as described. My main gripe was the insurance process; it felt a bit complicated to fully understand all the nuances with the deductibles and what exactly was covered. It took a bit of back-and-forth with customer service to clarify some points, and they were helpful eventually, but it could be smoother. Delivery was virtual, of course. Overall, good value for the trip I had, but the insurance details could be simplified for renters.

Easy way to find a camper

So, I decided to try PaulCamper after hearing about it from a friend. I wanted to rent a 'VW Bulli' for a long weekend. The website was super easy to use, I found a few cool options near me really fast. Booking was simple, and the owner got back to me quickly. Picked up the Bulli, it was just like the pictures, really clean and comfy. No big dramas at all, everything just worked out nicely. Had a great trip with my dog, it was one of the 'Hundefreundliche Camper' listings. Would definitely use them again, saved me a lot of hassle compared to regular rental places.

Fantastic trip with a 'VW California'!

I absolutely loved my PaulCamper experience! We rented a 'VW California' for our summer vacation, and it was perfect. The booking was so simple, and the owner was incredibly helpful and even gave us some great local tips for our route. The camper was immaculate, had everything we needed, and drove like a dream. It made our whole vacation so much more enjoyable and flexible. I'm already planning my next trip and will definitely be using PaulCamper again!

Just curious, anyone know if you can stack a new customer voucher with like, a long-term rental discount? Trying to save some cash on a month-long trip.

D Derek Foster 2 months ago
Nah, I don't think you can combine them. Most vouchers, especially the new customer ones, are usually standalone. I tried once and it didn't work.

Pretty sure they say in their FAQ that you can't combine multiple coupons. Usually it's one code per booking. Best to pick the one that saves you the most.

How does PaulCamper compare to Roadsurfer? I've heard good things about both but not sure which one to go with.

I Ivy 2 months ago
PaulCamper is more about private owners, so you get a huge variety of campers and often a more personal touch. Roadsurfer is a commercial fleet, so their vans are usually newer but less unique. Depends if you want a specific vibe or just a reliable ride.

For me, PaulCamper felt more authentic cause you're dealing with actual owners. Plus, you can find really cool, unique campers you won't get from a commercial rental place. Roadsurfer is fine if you want a standardized experience, but I prefer the choice on PaulCamper.

Is PaulCamper legit? Never used a peer-to-peer rental for something this big before. Worried about getting scammed or something.

Totally legit. Used them a few times. It's basically like Airbnb but for campers. Owners are usually super friendly and they handle all the payments securely.

Yeah, they're big in Europe. I've rented through them, and everything went smoothly. The handover process is detailed, and they have customer support if anything goes wrong. It's not some fly-by-night operation.

Are dogs usually allowed in the campers? I want to bring my golden retriever on our trip, but not sure if that's an option.

N Nina Foster 2 months ago
Definitely depends on the camper! Many owners explicitly list their campers as 'dog-friendly'. You can filter for that when you search. Make sure to double-check with the owner too.

You'll find plenty of listings that say 'Hundefreundliche Camper'. Just use the filter! I took my beagle last summer and it was great. Just be respectful and keep the camper clean for the owner.

Thinking of renting a Bulli for a road trip across Austria. Do most owners put a limit on how many kilometers you can drive?

G Greg Z. 2 months ago
A lot of them do, yeah. It varies by owner and listing. Some offer unlimited for a higher daily rate, others have a cap and then charge per extra km. Just check the specific listing's details.

Pretty common to see a daily km limit, like 200 or 300km. If you're doing a huge trip, definitely look for listings that specify unlimited kilometers or be prepared for extra charges.
